2010 Seattle Seahawks Roster Set....Sort Of.

by Brendan O'Leary

Thank you to seahawkaddicts.com for this roster analysis

Well, we are officially down to 53 Seahawks.

Which isn't to say the 53 on the roster this morning are going to all be here come next Sunday. With the turnover rate Carrol and Co. have established thus far this offseason, I suppose anything is possible. I want to believe that the front office knows what it's doing. That these are highly trained individuals who've dedicated their lives to mastering the art of putting together a highly functional football team. I mean, a lot of the moves that have been made lately just don't make any sense to me. But I work in the service industry, I'm no expert, I'm just a fan of football in general and the Seahawks in particular.

We trade Josh Wilson. Playmaker, by all accounts good all around guy, and a fan favorite. Ok, maybe we're just stockpiling picks for next years draft. Maybe they really like Thurmond and Jennings. There must be some reason giving Wilson up for so little (a 2011 5th rounder) is ok. Right? There must be a method to the madness, because these people are getting paid a lot of money to oversee a team that means quite a bit to me and about 60,000 other 12th Men who pay absurdly high ticket prices every home game and pay the salaries of said personnel department "gurus". Speaking of salaries...

TJ Houshmanzadeh. Signed less than 18 months ago to a $4o million dollar contract, with $15 mil guaranteed. Now granted, this contract was started under Timmay Ruskells watch, Carrol and Co. inherited a mouthy 33 year old #2 possession receiver. Tough spot for a new regime. But, on a year when he is guaranteed $7 mil, you dont cut him. Trade him if you can, which you can't, because who wants to buy a mouthy 33 year old receiver for $7 mil? No one. Well, maybe the Bears. I digress. My point is that if you have plans to move him, next year would be the year to do it. This roster is not better having lost Housh. I love the story of Big Mike Williams, excited to see if he can reclaim a career that once had so much promise. But Housh is a proven and KNOWN QUANTITY. Now some team is going to scoop him up and we will still pay him about $6.5 million!!! There is no getting around the fact that this situation was handled poorly.

Or was it? These people, these highly trained professionals, this is their job. This must have all been meticulously orchestrated. Right? Right??? I expect to see plenty more moves in the next week, and frankly with the amount of USC old boys coming through I wouldn't be surprised if Marcus Allen suited up to challenge Ganther for our short yardage back spot. Whatever the case, we'll see next Sunday, and I'll see all you 12th men and women there at Qwest. It's football eve people, get ready.

  1. Marcus Allen would have a dozen TD's by week 5 and you know it.
